It’s less than a month away. Planned your Christmas shopping yet?
If you’re keen to buy local and from small stallholders who are super proud of their wares—so proud they get a specially delivered extra candy cane from Santa—then think about heading to a market where you’re guaranteed to get all your Christmas shopping done in one go.
The Canberra Christmas Market has been around for five years and offers more than 1,750 square metres of shopping in a fun, festive atmosphere. Cathie Wall, market co-founder, says there’s something for everyone of all ages and interests and this market will have more than 100 stallholders.
“The stallholders sell such a diverse range of products and it’s fabulous to discover what new items pop up each year,” says Cathie. “There are so many beautiful items, all lovingly made or curated. It’s a perfect spot to shop if you’re not so keen on buying mass-produced gifts or jostling the crowds at the big malls.”

The Canberra Christmas Market has decorations for your home, tree or office, unique stocking fillers and even pressies for pets. On the food side, stallholders will sell home-made gingerbread, Christmas puddings, specialty preserves and other festive food.
“There’s a wide range of price points,” says Cathie. “You’re guaranteed to tick everything off your list all in one visit.”

Elegant Elves
One stallholder, Elegant Elves returns to the Canberra Christmas Market, selling elegant Victorian-style Christmas stockings, wreaths with gorgeous trims and finishings, and one-of-a-kind decorations and ornaments. They handmake each one and have even designed a wreath featuring shells for those who love all things coastal.
The Cookie Cutter will be at the market selling hand-made and hand-decorated cookies. Favourite flavours include vanilla and chocolate sugar cookies and gingerbread, made in various shapes and designs, all inspired by traditional Christmas characters. Sweets by hailz will sell rum balls, Bailey’s balls and sherry balls, as well as gingerbread houses. Rose Cakes Canberra will sell Christmas treats that all look and taste delicious. They’ll also have ‘thank-you’ teacher cookies on hand.

“Christmas is a time of great cheer and marketgoers will uncover great stocking fillers, some guaranteed to put a smile on your face,” says Cathie. “That even includes fun toilet rolls with fun sayings to make you laff in the loo.”
The Canberra Christmas Market is held indoors at EPIC and so protected from the weather.
“It’s a great day out for the whole family,” says Cathie. “We have market-goers who always bring the kids and grandparents and pop by to say hello year, after year after year.”
