Loved Floriade in the suburbs? It’s back for 2021—and applications are now open

2020’s massive global shift required a massive pivot for Canberra’s annual celebration of spring.
But Floriade embraced the challenge, reinventing the annual floral show as Floriade: Reimagined, including Floriade Community, which saw the festival’s bulbs and annuals planted across the city in a ‘tulip trail’ by more than 80 community groups.
As Spring sprung, Canberrans saw their local parks, shops and community hubs come to life with colour—and applications are now open for Floriade Community 2021.

Taking place from 11 September to 10 October, Floriade 2021 will return to Commonwealth Park for a COVID-safe festival—the structure of which is yet to be determined—with more than a million bulbs being planted for the occasion.
But Floriade Community will also offer 30,000 bulbs and annuals to community groups to plant across the city and the ACT Government is calling for applications.
Groups who are eligible to apply include:
- Local community groups
- Attractions
- Sporting clubs
- Churches
- Aged care facilities
- Medical centres
- Floriade sponsors
Locations must be visible to a large number of Canberrans, such as local shops or community hubs.
Those successful applicants will also have access to Floriade grants which will make the planting process easier.
The deadline for applications is 9 May. See www.floriadeaustralia.com to apply and for more details.
