Get ACTIVE: December
Posted on
At HerCanberra, we know how tough it can be to get out there and try something new. Introducing HerCanberra’s Get ACTIVE—an entire year of free fitness activities.
It’s hard to try something new. There’s the fear of being judged, the fear of looking silly, the fear of being ‘unco’, the fear of not knowing anyone. What better way to overcome those fears than to come together?
We’ve had a huge response to HerCanberra’s Get ACTIVE—an entire year of free fitness activities made possible with the support of the ACT Government’s Participation Innovation Fund.
So, what’s in store for December? We’re glad you asked! All you need to do is decide what activity (or activities) you’d like to try, book in, and show up with a great attitude!

STRONG by Zumba® with Fuerza Fit
View this post on Instagram
If the fact that it’s a dance-based fitness class has put you off trying Zumba, STRONG by Zumba® might be what you’re looking for. The Zumba equivalent of a HIIT class, STRONG sees you stop counting the reps and start training to the beat.
STRONG by Zumba® combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move.
Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep, and maybe even five more.
In each class you’ll burn calories while toning arms, legs, abs and glutes. Plyometric or explosive moves like high knees, burpees, and jumping jacks are interchanged with isometric moves like lunges, squats, and kickboxing.
As the only Canberra instructor currently offering STRONG by Zumba®, Kiki is beyond excited to introduce this energetic and effective way of training to HerCanberra readers.
Places are limited for this class—please be respectful and cancel well in advance if you have a change of plans, to allow as many people as possible to experience STRONG by Zumba®.
When: Saturday 14 December
Time: 10–11 am
Where: St Peter’s Lutheran Church Hall, 6 Boolee Street, Reid. Google Maps.

FOR FITNESS PROVIDERS

When it comes to fitness, it’s not one-size-fits-all—some of us like to run, others would rather stick pins in their eyes. Some love nothing more than ball sports, whereas others can’t live without CrossFit.
We want to give our readers the opportunity to try the huge diversity of activities that Canberra has to offer—and that’s where you come in.
We’re asking sporting groups and health and fitness providers, to give our readers the opportunity to participate in an activity for free as part of our year-long Get ACTIVE series.
From our readers’ perspective, it’s a chance to try a new sport, class or activity at no cost, without the hassle of finding friends to come along or mustering the courage to go it alone.
It’s taking the intimidation factor out of trying something new, because we’re all in it together.
WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU?
The chance to put yourself in from of our audience of 130,000+ unique readers a month—most of whom are Canberra women between 20 and 50.
We want as many women in Canberra to get active—with you. We want them to fall in love with a new way of moving their body, or an old, forgotten favourite.
We want them to sweat, have fun, and connect with themselves, each other, and you.
SOUND GOOD?
Great! We’re now looking for activities from March 2020 onwards.
We just need to know a little bit more about the activity you’d like to offer. It could be anything, including:
- Staging a free ‘come and try’ session/s for your sport or activity
- Providing a free class pass
- Offering a free trial
- Anything else that gives people a chance to get active in a low risk and accessible environment.
Simply fill in this handy form and we’ll be in touch! If you want to be involved, but you’re just not quite sure how, drop us a line at belinda@hercanberra.com.au and we’ll work with you to come up with something that’s right for your business.
We can’t wait to get ACTIVE with you.
