If you’ve been dreaming of an overseas holiday filled with food, fun and sunny skies, it’s time to get excited: the Canberra Airport has announced the recommencement of international flights!

Starting Saturday 1 October this year, the announcement means that Canberrans will soon have direct access to Qatar Airways’ global network of more than 150 destinations—including Europe, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East.

Bringing a welcome boost to our local tourism industry, both Canberra Airport CEO Stephen Byron and ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr are chuffed with the new announcement, marking it as an important post-lockdown milestone.

“It also means that travellers from all over the world will have the opportunity to come and experience what Canberra and the surrounding region has to offer,” explains Mr Byron.

“The recommencement of the Qatar Airways service in October is an important milestone for our business and our city. We are a truly internationally connected city once again.”

“Qatar’s return is a welcome vote of confidence in Canberra and the region, an acknowledgement that our market offers close to a million outbound travellers.” Mr Barr said.

Included in the return is the once-daily connection between Doha and Canberra —perfect for Canberra football fans looking to attend the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar (or anyone just looking to get out of town).

Excited travellers can expect flights from Doha will arriving in Canberra at 12.50 am daily (following a short stopover in Melbourne), while flights departing Canberra for Doha will leave at 14:30 pm daily. There will also be a short stopover in Melbourne on this leg of the route.

So grab your passport and pack your suitcase—it’s time to start planning for that holiday!
