The secret to living beyond limits

Personal and business coach Blair Kelly believes everyone could potentially be the next Richard Branson – it’s just a matter of changing the way you think.
“The way we think is due to what we’re brought up to believe, or the beliefs we consciously or unconsciously choose to take on ourselves,” Blair says.
“Everything you believe about yourself is all learnt behaviour. People hear all the time ‘think positive and you’ll succeed’ but it’s really hard for someone to do that on a regular basis if they’ve been thinking otherwise for 20, 30, 40 or however many years.”
Through her new business, Liberate You, Blair is trying to change that by “reframing” the way people think, running personal and business coaching sessions which focus on everything from mental health, mindset for athletes, confidence, and improving anxiety.
Her mission? To educate and inspire people to liberate their minds, manifest a life beyond limits, and empower them to live their purpose.
“It’s a combination of therapy and coaching – it’s all to do with the physical side of the mind,” says Blair.
“What I do is work to re-create the neural pathways of the mind – so creating different thinking strategies – and from there we work on continuing to strengthen that pathway.”
Since starting the business last month, Blair has been seeing roughly 20 clients a week, ranging from small business owners, public servants and athletes.
“I think people are definitely more eager to get to that next step, whether it be success in business or their personal life, but don’t know what is holding them back,” she says.
“People have long been using personal trainers for fitness or nutritionists for their diet, but when it came to personal and business coaching there was a bit of reluctance – now that’s changing. I think as the economy changes, there’s no job security anymore and there’s a higher percentage of people developing stress, so I think that’s why people are more inclined to see me.”
During her sessions, Blair – who has qualifications in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, hypnosis and time line therapy – works either one or one or in groups, with the end goal to adapt new mind techniques.
Some of the techniques include “anchoring” (using ‘triggers’ to prompt positive thinking) and “reframing” thought processes.
“It’s a hard thing to do but the more you do it you can re-frame absolutely everything,” Blair says.
“If someone is a negative person it is actually ingrained in the mind to look for the negative in life; that’s all they’ll see. Whereas if they work on reframing that thought process, if someone runs into the back of your car, they can think ‘that’s ok I wanted my car to be re-painted anyway’, they break their heel on the road, they say ‘that’s ok because I wanted to buy new shoes anyway’. It’s a gradual process but it helps your outlook on life and chance at success.”
Blair, a mother of three children and three step children, says she knows first-hand what some of her clients are going through after coming out of the other side of a toxic relationship a few years ago.
“From coming out of the darkest of times in my personal life that ultimately caused me to lose myself esteem – I became a product of my environment,” she says.
“I really had to work on my own personal growth during that time, and I thought about how I could help other people do the same, both in personal life and business. After becoming a successful and credible coach in other business ventures, I had a strong emotional and passionate connection to coaching others to take their lives to a whole new level.”
She says she’s received “amazing” feedback from clients so far.
“Some of my clients say to me they had anxiety for 15 years and it has really improved thanks to these simple mind techniques, and those people are starting to see a change in their family life or home,” Blair says.
“Often when you’ve got improvements in one area, you notice it in other areas – it can really turn your whole life around.”
