City Centre Court: The WNBL comes to Civic

Found it difficult to get your fill of the WNBA with games in Tuggeranong?
In great news for sports fans, The National Convention Centre – smack-bang in the heart of the city – now has its own basketball court and tonight, the University of Canberra Capitals will break in the new floorboards against the Bendigo Spirit in their first game of the season.

The Capitals are responsible for some of the best talent the WNBA has seen and with their new court, spectators will be able to see it in comfort. Stadium seating, wifi and air conditioning will make for a first class basketball watching experience. This is in addition to the amenities of the Convention Centre itself, as well as its location and proximity to the other numerous activities the city centre has to offer.
“It’s a great facility for players and spectators and it gives the community the chance to experience elite sport in the heart of the city,” says Minister for Sport and Recreation, Yvette Berry. “The air-conditioning, new playing surface and theatre seating all contribute to what will be a great home for the Caps and the challenge for Canberrans to come and pack it out this weekend.”
The new home of women’s basketball promises to be a sporting venue unlike any other in Canberra. It moves more towards the venues enjoyed by the American counterparts of the sport, and hopefully, towards a similar enjoyment by spectators.
“I hope this new venue is the beginning of something special for the Capitals,” says Minister Berry.
