Canberra Kids Market: more than 1,700 sqm of sustainable shopping

Posted on

Babies and kids grow so fast and, before you know it, you’re drowning in clothing, toys, games, books, equipment and furniture they no longer need or use. What to do?

Well, you can just shove everything in the garage, or donate to a charity, or spend hours selling online. Or you can book a stall at Canberra’s largest kids’ market and sell heaps in one go.

The Canberra Kids Market is designed to provide families with an opportunity to sell new and quality pre-loved ‘stuff’ they desperately want to get rid of but don’t want to dump in landfill where it will take decades to break down (indeed, some items never will).

At this Saturday’s Canberra Kids Market, 9 November, stallholders will take up more than 1,700 sqm of space to sell wares of all kinds for 0 to 12-year-old girls and boys. It’s the last market of 2019.

Marketgoers will snap up great bargains on clothing toys, games, books, furniture, equipment and more.

Founder Cathie Wall says the market—which has been running for more than 12 years—saves parents heaps, especially with the cost of new fashion and learning items these days.

“Marketgoers love the great buys they get on toys and books especially,” says Cathie, adding that the Canberra Kids Market has always had a strong environmental focus.

“We’re about the circular economy—recycling, reusing and reducing. New stallholders pop up all the time and there are regulars too because kids don’t stop growing.”

Cathie says the Canberra Kids Market also welcomes start-up businesses who want a low-cost way to market test ideas and products.

In 2020 the Canberra Kids Market will move to a new home—the Fitters Workshop, Kingston—centrally located with plenty of free parking in the area. Only minutes from the city with public transportation (you can grab light rail too).
