Everything you need to know about Floriade: Reimagined

Posted on

All Canberrans know that Floriade, our annual festival of spring, is the burst of colour and energy that we need after a frosty Canberra winter.

However, given 2020 is here to ruin everything, Floriade 2020 was cancelled—or so we thought.

Of course, given Floriade’s significance for both Canberrans and flower lovers from across Australia, Floriade 2020 was never going to be completely cancelled. Instead, it’s been reimagined.

And today, Events ACT unveiled exactly how that will take place.

From 12 September-11 October, Floriade Reimagined will burst into bloom across the city, giving Canberrans that much-needed slice of spring joy.

If you’re part of a community organisation or frequent your local shops, you might already know about the hundreds of thousands of bulbs that were donated to community groups and organisations across Canberra in the wake of the cancellation.

Well, come September those bulbs are going to looking might pretty across our city—just in time for the Floriade Tulip Trail.

The trail will chart a course across each of these plantings, so you can see snippets of Floriade’s glory in our suburbs, celebrating spring as we always have—just a little more spread out. How very 2020.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Floriade without some outstanding horticultural feats from the Floriade team, so the trail will also feature works from these talented folk.

But, as always, there’s more than just flowers on the menu.

This year, Floriade’s interactive offerings are split into three pillars—Floriade Life, Floriade Sprouts and Floriade NightFest—with each offered in a mixture of in-person and virtual events.

Floriade Life will host horticulture workshops, lifestyle talks, fitness classes, an e-marketplace showcasing all your favourite Floriade traders and foodies. Note that some workshops are ticketed.

Meanwhile, kids won’t miss out on all the flowery goodness with a Floriade Sprouts program that includes timely children’s activities about sustainability and the environment, a classic gnome hunt, and storytime.

And finally, Floriade NightFest will return for a very special one-night-only event on Friday 2 October 2020. Pop that date in your diary and stay tuned for exactly what this will entail…
