The HerCanberra French Film Festival Ladies Night is back!

As if you needed another excuse to get the gang together for a COVID-safe evening out, HerCanberra Ladies Night is back!
One of our favourite annual events, our HerCanberra Ladies Night at the 2021 Alliance Française French Film Festival is about as chic and relaxed as a night out gets.
Picture it: a swanky evening watching a French film in the luxe surrounds of Palace Electric with drinks, canapés, a set from local comedian Chelsea Heaney, a free gift from Jean Paul Gaultier and the chance to win a lucky seat prize from Liz Tilley Coaching—all for $35 per person! Does it get any better than that? We think not.
This year, we handpicked a cracker of a film, The Godmother—or en francaise, La Daronne—and we know you’re going to love it.
It was initially the striking Isabelle Huppert that drew me to this film (personally I find her one of the most irresistible actresses ever—you can’t seem to take your eyes off her) but after watching The Godmother at the festival’s media preview night, I know there’s so much more to love—and it’ll have you rolling in the aisles.

Firstly, it’s a cracker of a story—about Patience, a French/Arabic translator for the Paris police department who finds herself in a difficult spot after realising a friend’s son is the target of a drug mule investigation.
Stepping in to save him lands Patience in a pickle—there’s a van-load of hash somewhere in the French countryside and Patience needs to locate it before her colleagues in the police do.
But with bills mounting for her ailing mother’s care, Patience finds a way to balance both worries—by offloading the hash under the guise of her new identity, hash baroness Mrs Ben Barka.
Teaming up with bumbling small-time crooks Scotch and Cocoa Puff, she enters into a race against time—to offload the mammoth shipment of drugs before her police colleagues (oh, did we mention she’s dating her Police Commander?) catch Paris’ newest drug baron—with darkly hilarious results.
