Cinephiles, rejoice! The NFSA will reopen next month
Posted on
Lovers of Australian cinema, Australian history and Australian cinematic history will be excited to learn that as of Saturday 1 August, the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA) will reopen its art deco doors to the public.
And their fresh lineup of events has something for everyone. Here’s what you can look forward to…
IN CELEBRATION OF GREATNESS
A screening of She Who Must Be Loved, the inspirational documentary about Indigenous media pioneer Freda Glynn—plus a Q&A with her filmmaker daughter Erica Glynn (8 August).
FOR THE CLASSIC SCI-FI LOVERS
A screening of the 1927 expressionist masterpiece Metropolis, one of the earliest and most influential science fiction films (15 August).
FOR THE ROMANTICS
The classic Judy Garland musical Meet Me in St Louis, screened on 35mm film as a Friday matinee film, with a special introduction (28 August).
FRIGHT NIGHT, ANYONE?
The Loved Ones Twisted Prom Night—come along in a twisted prom outfit (prizes for best dressed!) and enjoy an interactive, ‘out loud’ screening of the Aussie horror film The Loved Ones (28 August).
BUT WAIT—THERE’S MORE…
The NFSA’s new, interactive space, Hive, will also open on Saturday 1 August. We’ll have more on that very soon…
What you need to know before you visit…
Naturally, the NFSA will be introducing strict COVID-safe guidelines on reopening.
These includes:
- Reduced capacity for screenings
- Multiple hand sanitiser stations
- Direction signage to help assist with capacity guidelines and physical distancing
- Bookings will be essential for screenings and events
- No cash accepted for purchases onsite
