Four artists not to miss at Nishi Gallery’s one day ceramics shop
Posted on
Nishi Gallery is hosting a One Day Ceramics Shop on Saturday 11 May.
The one-day event will feature ceramics by talented Canberra-based artists, including Fran Romano, Mark Saunders, Richilde Flavell (Girl Nomad Ceramics), Sara Hogwood and a variety of ceramics by CraftACT artists (including Chris Harford, Abbey Jamieson, Anna Gianakis and Anne Masters). The fantastic news: it’s all up for grabs.
This ‘mini market’ coincides with the gallery’s ceramics exhibition Berder. Gaba. Urrknga. Wantja. which showcases new ceramics from Indigenous artists living in remote areas across Australia. Berder. Gaba. Urrknga. Wantja. depicts a range of narratives; stories of adaptation, social shifts and continuing connection to place.
Below is a sneak peek at some of our favourite pieces and the artists who will be selling their wares on the day.

Frattempo is by Fran Romano, a Canberra-based ceramist who graduated from the ANU School of Art. In both her functional pieces and her artwork, Fran explores ideas of memory, nostalgia and the passage of time; encouraging a moment of reflection.
Fran has developed functional designs for cafes and restaurants including Rye Cafe in Braddon and Jackalope Hotels in Victoria. She currently works from her home studio in the inner city.

Mark Saunders uses slip casting techniques to create playful functional ware with an emphasis on colour and clean lines. He is currently a studio resident at the Watson Arts Centre.
