Lonsdale Street is closing tomorrow for an important party

Posted on

Tomorrow, there will be rainbows across Civic.

To celebrate what we can only hope is a positive outcome from the marriage equality postal survey, Braddon’s Lonsdale Street will be closed to make way for a rainbow party.

The official YES Campaign will be holding their official results party from 5pm at Hopscotch Bar and you’re invited. Aside from Hopscotch’s beer garden becoming a rainbow paradise, beer taps have been rebranded with ‘YES’ in a variety of languages while guests can sip on a special Equality cocktail, with a hundreds and thousands encrusted rim made with “alcohol in equal parts”.

But the most uplifting moment of the night may be the rainbow crossing a la Abbey Road that will be painted across Lonsdale Street to make way for the Official Canberra Results Street Party. Because this is Canberra, you can expect to rub shoulders with pollies from both sides of Parliament with Cheif Minister Andrew Barr and Senators Penny Wong and Dean Smith attending.

Whichever way the postal vote falls, this rainbow celebration will let LGBTIQ Canberrans know that without a doubt, Canberra supports them.
