HERCANBERRA ACTIVE DAY

HerCanberra’s ACTIVE Day is back—presented by the First Ever BMW X2—and to say that we’re excited is a slight massive understatement.
Once again, we’ve joined with some of Canberra’s best studios, instructors and experts to bring you a day bursting with all things health, fitness, and wellness.
Last year we held our inaugural event at The Social Club, and had so many ladies (and men) join us that we were practically spilling down the tiled steps into Green Square! This time around we’ve moved to the ANU Pop-Up Village—which means more space for you, more healthy food options, and some special new additions.

This Saturday Jesinta Franklin will feature in a special Canberra Centre Q&A event to discuss all things fashion and beauty this upcoming season.
Not only will you enjoy advice from Australian fashion icon—Jesinta—you’ll be treated to cocktails and canapes on arrival, one on one style advice from Canberra Centre’s in-house stylist Fiona Keary, a complimentary pamper session at the beauty bar and a gift bag.

HENRY ROLLAND PARK OPENING

West Basin’s newest park, on the edge of Lake Burley Griffin, will officially open on Saturday 28 April – let’s celebrate!
Spend your Saturday enjoying live music, games and activities and food and drinks as you take in the surrounds.
The new park, which is connected to the lake by a 150m long boardwalk, has lawn areas, picnic and barbeque facilities, exercise equipment and more than 23,000 plants.
Canberra Urban Adventures, GoBoat Canberra, Girls Sweat Too, Project Fitness and Dragon Boat ACT Clubs including Diamond Phoenix, Dragon Flyers and NAVMAT (visit bact.com.au) will all be there to help celebrate with activities for you to try.
String Elephants, Chicago Charles, Guac , Eleanor Ailie and Bill Olson will be providing live entertainment right throughout the day.
Henry Rolland Park is located in West Basin, adjacent to Barrine Drive. Walk or cycle to the park and take in the 150m long boardwalk.
If catching the bus, hop off along Commonwealth Avenue at Regatta Point.
Alternatively, there is plenty of public parking available near the park, adjacent to Barrine Drive and Commonwealth Avenue. Come and enjoy a day at the lake and see Canberra’s newest park for yourself.

THE CANBERRA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL

BLANC DE BLANC

From the acclaimed creative minds behind Madonna’s recent Rebel Heart tour Blanc de Blanc is the sell-out sensation, delighting audiences from Sydney Opera House to London’s West End. Now it’s Canberra’s turn for a seductive, immersive and naughty night out inside the Fortuna Spiegeltent.
Blanc de Blanc serves a blend of vintage glamour, high-end spectacle and titillating acts to infatuate, illuminate and delight. Bringing the finest cabaret and acrobatic talent from around the world into a wild, shimmering night – anticipate big moves, great tunes, lots of skin, and more than a few surprises.

Franco’s Hair Salon joins the effort against domestic violence

Franco’s Hair Salon, L’Oreal, and the White Ribbon Capital Region Committee are getting together to address domestic violence in the Canberra community.
The group are partnering to raise awareness and funds, all while giving survivors and the community a pampering.
When you think about it, we tell our Hairdressers everything. These chats are more-often-than-not light-hearted and a good chance to get a load off our chests. Franco’s hairdressers will receive guidance from White Ribbon Australia and Karinya House on spotting signs a client might be suffering domestic violence as well as referral points in Canberra to help anyone they might identify.
Franco’s are also opening their new salon to the whole community to help raise funds for White Ribbon’s vital primary prevention initiatives and education programs right here in the Canberra region.
You’re invited to get a treatment and blowdry at their new Salon in the Sydney Building 15 East Row in Civic from 10 am to 5 pm Sunday 29 April.
You can pay what you like with all proceeds going to White Ribbon Australia.

SHORT+SWEET THEATRE CANBERRA

Short+Sweet is a 10-minute play festival. Thirty 10 minute plays, more than half written by people from the ACT and Capital Region, are produced and performed by local performing artists over a two week run at the Canberra Theatre Centre.
Come along to see Canberra’s creatives at their best. Professional writers, directors and actors take their place alongside our enthusiastic and talented amateurs to impress the judges and their mums.
And the best thing is, if you don’t like what you’re seeing you never have to wait more than 10 minutes for the next play to start!

PLUS500 BRUMBIES V CRUSADERS

The defending Super Rugby Champions, and eight times title holders, Crusaders provide the opposition for the Plus500 Brumbies at GIO Stadium for what is sure to be one of the highlights of the Super Rugby Calendar.
The New Zealanders, replete with a stack of All Blacks talent, are sure to provide entertaining opposition, with the Brumbies often enjoying exceptional battles against their trans-Tasman foes.
This fixture will see Brumbies co-captain win his 100th Brumbies Super Rugby cap, becoming only the twelfth player in the entire history of the club to do so. Carter will join an elite group of centurions on matchday.
Always a tremendous encounter, the Brumbies and Crusaders have fought many epic battles down the years and will clash again as the club recognisees the important part that the armed forces play in Australia with its themed ‘Military Round’.
Come early to see local club sides RMC and ADAF meet in the curtain-raiser with the two Military Academies likely to provide an entertaining matchleading into the main event between the Brumbies and the Crusaders at 7.45pm.

MEETING MOZART
Your kids will laugh with delight as they join pianist Simon Tedeschi, Michelle Doake (as Mrs Mozart) and a string quintet in exploring and learning about classical instruments through popular Mozart pieces. From variations on Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star through to his great orchestral pieces including Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Turkish March (Rondo alla Turca) and music from The Magic Flute, your kids will have so much fun with Mozart’s masterpieces, they won’t even realise they are learning!
The show is followed by an informal and relaxed meet and greet in the foyer where your kids can get up-close with the string instruments. More information and tickets available here.

CANBERRA AND REGION HERITAGE FESTIVAL

The 2018 Canberra and Region Heritage Festival will be 16 days of celebration for the region’s Aboriginal, historic and natural heritage.
The theme for 2018 is ‘My Culture, My Story’. Go and explore, celebrate, share and preserve your cultural heritage. The festival will be focusing on what makes a place special by sharing the strength of cultural identities. Starting this month, Spiegeltent Canberra will be set up in Civic Square, featuring some of the best nationally and internationally touring cabaret, comedy, music and dance shows around.

Now it’s Canberra’s turn for a seductive, immersive and naughty night out inside the Fortuna Spiegeltent.

AUSDANCE ACT PRESENTS ‘DANCE WEEK’

Ausdance ACT are celebrating Australian Dance Week with a host of celebrations, classes and events. Dance week is held from Sunday 29 April to Sunday 6 May.
The highlight of the week falls on International Dance Day with Big Dance. Big Dance commissions acclaimed choreographers to create a work that can be performed by anyone in the world, through online tutorials and community workshops. Big Dance engages thousands of people with one unifying choreographic piece, performed across local regional and metropolitan communities. The 2018 Big Dance routine includes versions to suit a variety of capabilities and circumstances, including standing, seated and suggestions on adapting the choreography for different abilities.
Big Dance is happening on Sunday 29 April from 2:30-3pm at the National Portrait Gallery, King Edward Terrace, Parkes.

PLAY UP

Discover PlayUP – The Right to Have an Opinion and Be Heard, where kids can explore the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child in a playful way. Adults can even join in the fun too! From listening pods and a roleplay Kindness Café to a fuzzy felt wall and craft activities, PlayUP has a range of exciting and immersive experiences that flip the traditional idea of museums completely on its head.
