20 places to eat at these holidays…starting now

Posted on

Whether you’re having a ‘stay-cation’ in the capital or welcoming guests this Christmas, Canberra often goes a little dormant as the countdown to the new year begins. This means that your options to eat out become a little diminished along with the thought of another leftovers dinner. But rather than do the ring around trying to determine which eateries are open, we’ve done the hard work for you and put together a (bucket) list of where to eat this Summer. Just note that we’ve listed the days these places are closed, (regular opening hours can be found by clicking on the name).

Bon appetit and happy eating!

Although very popular with the young ‘it’ crowd, or the “beautiful people’ – a lot of these places are based in the city/Braddon/Kingston/Manuka area – a very over-rated, over-priced and over-represented area in my opinion, and an area that gets very busy with people who seem to be quite rude and very full of their own self-importance, including the wait staff at a couple of the places mentioned. Although I’m not sure of opening hours over the holiday period, I would encourage people to get out into the ‘burbs and experience places like:
The Loft at Duxton – O’Connor Shops
La Piazza – Erindale
The Peppered Prawn – Phillip
Soulfood Kitchen – Erindale
Fig&Olive – Chisholm Shops
My’s Restaurant – Weston
Kusina’s – Weston
Scope – Mount Stromlo
Ellacure – Bruce
A Bite to Eat – Chifley
Ramas – Pearce
Ethiopia Down Under – Pearce Shops
Grandma’s Little Bakery and Café – Collector (ok, so not quite IN Canberra!)
Little Brother / Onred – Red Hill
Tilley’s Devine Café – Lyneham

Thanks Ros – we are also big fans of eating ‘in the burbs’ and have published oodles of posts this year about options outside the city precincts. However, as this post is designed as a guide to places that are open over the holiday period, these are the places to eat our research unearthed as meeting that brief.

No worries Amanda – I must have missed a lot of those posts. Just wanted to make sure people were aware that there are places to go outside the ‘norm’. I guess a lot of places in the ‘burbs may be closed over the Christmas period though, as they are not part of a larger commercial centre.

Many thanks for the synopsis! That’s really helpful. Could I just make a fervent plea for the use of the correct spelling of its, the possessive form of it, as opposed to it’s, the contraction of it is or it has. Cheers!
