The Winter Forage: deep-fried brownie cookies and buttered rum
Posted on
The Forage is back for a warming winter festival and it’s more delicious than ever.
Taking place at Fyshwick’s Dairy Road Precinct, The Forage is Canberra’s biggest and most delicious street food festival. With things to eat, drink, see and do, it’s a huge day out for the whole family (including your four-legged friends).

Here’s a taste (sorry) of what to expect when the Winter Forage pops up at Dairy Road on Saturday 15 June.
EAT + DRINK

Hungry Brown Cow at The Forage.
The colder months are all about indulgence and The Forage will be bringing the goods, with seasonal deliciousness like deep fried caramel brownie cookies from Hungry Brown Cow. We recommend lining up for these, like, now.
Or perhaps you’d like a Sicilian-spiced mulled Negroni paired with Negroni-based Sicilian pastries and cakes by Sicilian Biscuit Company in partnership with Canberra Distillery and Tea Garden Co (shut up and take our money) and Hot Buttered Rum by the Skeehan Brothers.

Alongside all your favourite returning vendors like Ramen Daddy, The Pop Inn, Two Smoking Barrels and Cracking Corn, there will be new stalls like Choux (think eclairs filled with custard and layered with toppings) and Let’s Do Yum Cha.
Did we mention there will be more than 50 food and drink stalls in total? Yep. Get ready folks.
SEE + DO

Vendulka.
While you warm your hands with a drink and your stomach with something hot and delicious, stay awhile by the fire drums and listen to the dulcet tones of Vendulka (currently on The Voice), who will be performing on the Soul Defender Stage. And don’t forget to keep an eye out for the roaming fire twirlers from Fool Factory who will be performing pyrotechnics!

There are also plenty of fun activities to keep you occupied at Dairy Road, including climbing a wall or two at über cool bouldering gym BlocHaus or jumping on some skis at Canberra’s only dry skiing experience (it has to be seen to be believed) at VertiKal where they’ll have a $50 special on the day for Forage attendees.

Vertikal.
WARM YOUR HANDS FOR A GOOD CAUSE

Give Me 5 For Kids will also be collecting donations on the day, with all funds raised going toward helping Canberra Hospital buy equipment and toys for sick kids.

On the day you can buy a Forage water bottle that you can fill at one of the many free water stations around the festival, with $5 from every sale going to Give Me 5 for Kids, or you can warm your mitts with some pocket hand warmers for a gold coin donation.
PARKING + FREE PUBLIC TRANSPORT

While there is plenty of parking in the Dairy Road Precinct, guests are strongly encouraged to use the free bus services that will be running on the day, with buses to and from both NewActon and the Kingston Foreshore during The Forage.
See the bus timetables here.

If you do want to drive, you’re encouraged to park in Fyshwick and walk to Dairy Road.
