Get your 2021 Pets of Canberra Calendar and support those impacted by domestic and family violence
Posted on
Do you remember a month or so back, we put a call out for Canberra’s cutest pets? Well, the Domestic Violence Crisis Service (DVCS) has found them.
They have since been photographed by some incredibly talented photographers, who all volunteered their time and talents and they are just about ready for distribution.
But have you got your order in? With over 100 orders already made, these are sure to sell out.
“We received about 300 entries to this year’s calendar. Each year we receive more and more entries, it’s fantastic,” says DVCS Community Development and Engagement Manager Alanna Davis.
“We can also see the quality of the entries are getting higher each year too. This year we also sold the spare squares in the calendar to people who wanted to ensure their pet featured in the calendar. The response to that was brilliant too, so we will absolutely be doing that again next year.”
“As like many other organisations, the impacts of the bushfires, hail storm and COVID-19 has significantly impacted our ability to fundraise. All the money we fundraise goes directly to benefiting clients by way of emergency accommodation, groceries, petrol, mobile phones and credit and a range of other supports.”
“We want to sell as many calendars as possible. Not only is it supporting those impacted by domestic and family violence, but it features local pets, photographed by local photographers and printed locally too. And we manage distribution ourselves. It is totally supportive of our local community. These are fantastic Christmas presents for family and friends, and of course, corporate gifts too!”

Mallie Taylor of Mattalie Photography was one of the four volunteer photographers this year.
“This is the third year I have been involved in this project. I love it,” says Mallie. “I’m so honoured to contribute. I love the people I get to meet and their special pets. I’ve been able to photograph horses, cows, lizards, frogs, birds, rabbits and of course, dogs and cats over the years. It’s just so much fun.”
“But all of that fun stuff aside, it is important to remember all of this work is to support those impacted by domestic and family violence in our community. I didn’t realise how common it was until I started telling people I was a part of this project three years ago. So many of my friends told me about their experiences, or an experience of a loved one. Domestic and family violence does not discriminate, it’s everywhere. I’m glad, in my own way, I can support the work DVCS does.”

Mallie has volunteered on all three DVCS Pets of Canberra Calendars. She has been joined by LJ King Photography, Kate Bernardo Photography and Oak & Dust Photography, who have all been involved since the beginning.
The team at KwikKopy in Phillip provide their designing and printing services at a heavily discounted rate. DVCS expresses their gratitude to all of these important people.
This year DVCS is pleased to add a Desk Top calendar to the list of products available. This joins A4 and A3 size calendars.
