Five things for single girls to do in Canberra this winter
Posted on
When I first started brainstorming for this post it occurred to me that I fully intend on spending the Canberra winter curled up in my electrically heated bed with my laptop and a lot of tea. This is because (1) I don’t like the cold AT ALL and (2) leaving the house takes double the amount effort in winter, as it is necessary to don multiple layers of clothing.
So before I list some fun activities for the freezing weather I will list a few advantages to winter fashion. First off, YOU CAN WEAR BEANIES!!! They both keep your ears warm and circumvent any need for hair washing/straightening/brushing! Secondly – STOCKINGS!!!! You can pretty much throw out the fake tan and razor for the next four months – woo!! Thirdly, woollen jumpers and heavy coats! Winter clothes are just somehow, classier! They also leave you more room to eat chocolate and comfort food… Awesome!
Here is my pick of things for unattached ladies and their buddies to do this winter:
Go skiing
The downside is that it is expensive. The upside is that it is awesome. My advice would be to head down early morning to make the most of a day on the slopes. Weekdays out of school holidays are the best idea. Stop skiing at regular intervals to consume cake and warm beverages. The season starts mid June, which gives you plenty of time to plan ahead.
Live music
The idea is that the more people there are crammed into a room the less likely you are to die of hypothermia. There are some awesome gigs coming up at The Front and ANU Bar over the next few months. Take a few of your mates along and hit on that cute tall guy who just happens to be blocking your view…
Host a GNI (Girls night in…)!
Because one of these points had to involve pyjamas, chocolate and a Ryan Gosling movie marathon. Baked goods are a must – this is my go-to chocolate cookie recipe. Pyjamas should also be non-negotiable. My best friend and I are currently deliberating whether or not to buy matching bumblebee onesies… Thoughts?
Eat curry
Because spicy food is the absolute best. Delhi 6, the Asian Noodle House on Northbourne, Bharat International in Belconnen and of course, the Burmese Curry Place are my personal favourites.
Power Yoga
Because it is warm, fun, and a pretty intense workout. The crew at Power Yoga Canberra are some of the nicest people you will ever meet and the studio is kept at a cosy 30-35 degrees so absolutely perfect to curl up in on a cold winter night. They also do some awesome introductory offers such as $20 for 10 days of unlimited practice or an introductory month for $100.
Option six is to take a temporary leave of absence from work/study/THE FROST and fly somewhere warm. If you need me I’ll be sailing in Turkey.
Single girls, what are your favourite (Canberra specific) things to do in winter?
