Introducing Madison and Dolly, The 1969 Mobile Beauty Salon

Posted on

Madison Lansdowne is a Murrumbateman local and the founder of Country Haven Beauty, Canberra and surrounding area’s first registered mobile beauty salon.

With the help of family and friends, Madison has turned Dolly the caravan into a peaceful and professional space where her customers can choose from treatment options including waxing, spray tanning, eyelash extensions and massages.

“I could have been a tradie,” says Madison, who personally worked on Dolly’s transformation. However after completing a Diploma of Beauty Therapy, Madison started searching for a caravan that she could work from. “I was always was interested in skincare and beauty when I was younger so I just thought I’d jump in and take a shot at it.”

At only twenty years old, Madison has immersed herself in the world of beauty. “I’ve been flat out since I opened!” Madison says. She was drawn to the idea of a mobile salon because it provides a more convenient option for her customers, especially for treatments like spray tans that can be tricky to look after. “They can wear their pyjamas for all I care,” she laughs.

She has also started her own skincare range after struggling to find suitable products already on the market. “It’s called Elanora skincare. I wanted to make something that was at a good price point and all natural, organic, vegan, all that good stuff,” she explains. It’s currently only available from Madison’s salon, but she hopes to expand in the future.

Madison sees some common mistakes when it comes to looking after your skin. “So many people are using the wrong moisturiser,” she says. “For example Sorbolene is only a barrier cream that doesn’t actually moisturise. Another thing people don’t know is that using different brands of cosmetics on your skin together can actually cause a bad reaction because of the different chemicals in the products.”

Dolly the caravan can be spotted all over the place, with Madison visiting anywhere from Canberra to Yass and Murrumbateman.

“It has not been easy,” she says. “It’s taken a lot of hard work which starting to finally pay off. It’s been difficult but I’m really glad I did it.”
