Real Wedding: Lauren and Jack
Posted on
A Canberra hospitality romance blossomed 10 years ago when Lauren, then chef at The Boat House, met Jack, who was close with the owner’s family.
After a coastal proposal in Guerilla Bay, Lauren and Jack decided to tie the knot in an elegant, laid back and fun fashion, surrounded by heritage buildings.
GETTING READY

Jack got ready at our apartment and I got ready at his parent’s house.
Our wedding was on 18 November 2016. We had hoped to book it for the 11th (our anniversary) but there was an art exhibition on that week. Our one year wedding anniversary will (almost) be our 10 year together anniversary.

THE DRESS

I chose my wedding dress because it was simple, elegant and timeless. I’m only little and didn’t want to be lost in a mass of tulle and lace.

CEREMONY

We wanted a venue that was true to who we are as individuals and a couple. We love Canberra and the beautiful heritage buildings, we wanted our wedding to be elegant, laid back, fun and close to home.

The day was perfect. We were so lucky with the weather! It rained the whole week leading up to the day before and then it was pure warmth and sunshine.
RECEPTION
Our whole wedding was based on the premise that we didn’t want to lose sight of the things that actually mattered to us. Therefore our attention was targeted towards our vows to one another, the food, the alcohol, the music and just generally ensuring that everyone had a good time. I had so many fantastic creative genius contacts from my time in hospitality help us out so I left a lot of suggestions in their highly capable hands.

There was no designated seating. I put together an antipasto grazing table and prawn and oyster bar to start and made some salads to go with woodfired pizzas for mains. Because the wedding was on a Friday night Brodburger was packed and the OBDM night markets were on so the whole area was just buzzing with activity. It was like a festival.
Everyone loved it. A lot of people have said that it was the best wedding they have ever been to. It was relaxed, fun and delicious. You could tell that everyone was there to have a good time and lots of people left the night with new friends.
Favorite part of the day

Walking down the aisle. It was the one thing I was dreading and I was completely wrong.

We had our photos taken before the ceremony and that was a really good idea. It helped to calm my nerves seeing Jack before walking down the aisle and it meant that (after a few quick family shots) we could get straight into the party.
